Our story
The beginning of Kettukallio
In 1999, Hannu Korpijaakko, the former owner of Pohjola farm, dreamed of a cottage in the forest. A friend tipped him off about a farmhouse in Pukkila, and a deal was soon struck. Gradually, the idea of building an ancient village in the hollow below the farmhouse began to take shape. This somewhat ambitious idea sparked planning and practical work that would eventually bring Kettukallio to life.
The first project in 2000 was building a road to the farmhouse and a firewood storage. The farmhouse log frame was relocated from Pukkila and restoration work began to make it suitable for rental use. It took a few years before the completion of the farmhouse could be celebrated. At the same time, the Elämyskylä began to take shape, built mainly by Hannu and his son Tuomas. In 2001 the Korpilaitu clearing was made, and shortly after, a 100 metre artificial pond was dug alongside a dramatic rocky cliff. In 2002 a road was built from Pohjola farm, where Hannu was living at the time, to the Elämyskylä, and electricity was connected. The first structure built in the Elämyskylä was a kota, constructed by Tuomas, who was studying forestry and natural resources, together with a friend. The farmhouse was completed in 2002, and a lean-to shelter, firewood storage and outhouse were added to the Elämyskylä alongside the kota.
Smoke sauna and the first events
This was not enough for Hannu, however, and out of several plans, the smoke sauna and an adjoining lodge under the same roof were chosen for construction. The first steam was thrown in the smoke sauna in 2005.
For a few years, guests were served on this basis, but new plans began to form in Hannu's mind. A need for a larger dining space had been identified, and the wedding celebration of Hannu's eldest daughter in the summer of 2009 served as a good deadline for this. The outdoor dining shelter was completed in the sweltering summer heat, now accommodating around 60 people for coffee and gatherings. That same year, a sauna was finally built in the farmhouse yard.
Growth and new ideas
In 2010, Hannu seized an opportunity when some cottages in Karkali were being offered for free for dismantling. He agreed to take one of the cottages to the Elämyskylä to provide additional accommodation. The cottage was transported in one piece on a tractor trailer and lifted by crane to the edge of the pond. A large terrace was built onto the cottage, offering wonderful views over the Elämyskylä landscape.
In July 2014, lightning struck the farmhouse sauna and burned the interior almost completely. The fire was fortunately extinguished in time, and the changing room and walls were saved from destruction. During the autumn, the sauna, which had only been built a few years earlier, was restored and ready for use again.
As his final building project in 2014, Hannu rescued a log barn from the village, built in 1929, and it was given a new life as a firewood storage for the smoke sauna.
The Birth of Kettukallion Elämystila
In January 2015, a generational handover took place at Pohjola farm, and the Elämystila passed into the ownership of Hannu's son Tuomas and his wife Terhi. They renamed the place Kettukallion Elämystila, as the main farmhouse of Pohjola farm passed into the ownership of Tuomas's sister and her husband.
Hannu embarked on a new "crazy project" and began renovating a place known as Pikku-Pohjola as his retirement home, giving him a new outlet for his passion for building.
During the first years, Terhi and Tuomas worked hard to raise awareness of the Elämystila. They also created a range of activity packages for both adult and children's groups. In January 2015, minor renovation work and tidying up was carried out in the smoke sauna lodge and the farmhouse.
More accommodation was needed for both event guests and school camp visitors. Tuomas planned to build a new accommodation space, but an earlier attractive offer for an old luhtiaitta came to mind, and in early spring 2017 a deal was made for the log frame.
The foundations were started in spring 2017 and by the time the snow arrived, the log frame of the granary had been erected. The following spring the granary was completed and opened for accommodation for summer 2018 event guests. The property now offers accommodation for a total of 30 guests.
Awards and new buildings
In the spring of 2019 Kettukallio was awarded Lohja's Tourism Business of the Year 2018.Recognition was given for the quality of operations as well as the company's ability to renew itself, develop and put customers first.
It was then time to pick up the shovel and move on to the next building project: during the summer of 2019, changing rooms were completed alongside the smoke sauna.
During Covid in 2020, focus was largely placed on improving the farmhouse facilities both indoors and outdoors. A new and improved barbecue area was built in the farmhouse yard, and a hot tub was added to the farmhouse sauna.
In spring 2021, work on the cart sauna was well underway when progress came to a halt due to the owner's sick leave. However, a broken wrist did not stop him from taking up a very tempting offer to acquire an old sauna barrel from a construction site.
Something new every year… In 2022 a small log cabin was moved to the farmhouse grounds to provide additional accommodation. Tuomas also carved a log lean-to shelter in the corner of the farmhouse sauna. The year's new programme activity, Archery Combat, also required a variety of preparations.
Nature and latest updates
In spring 2023, we permanently protected a 3.1 hectare area along the Karstunjoki river, inspired by the Metso Luontohelmet conservation project. The area was named the Reporinne nature conservation area.
In 2023 and 2024, focus was placed on running day-to-day operations and improving the facilities of existing buildings. Lighting was added and electrical systems were upgraded in many of the spaces.
In 2024, a deal was made for a new log granary that was being sold along the old highway in Sitarla. The granary was dismantled and moved to Kettukallio to await reassembly.
The winter of 2025 was exceptionally mild and snow-free, so we decided to begin assembling the new granary in February. The granary turned out beautifully and was completed just in time for the tenth anniversary celebrations.
The 10th anniversary was celebrated in spring weather on 3 May 2025. At the same event, the new Revonka-aitta was officially opened.
During the summer of 2025, Kettukallio hosted 7 weddings and many other celebrations. Guests were served under a new sun sail in front of the dance floor, as well as a barbecue shelter equipped with a gas grill.

Reporinne Nature Conservation Area
In spring 2023, inspired by the Metso Luontohelmet conservation project, we permanently protected a 3.1 hectare area along the Karstunjoki river as a nature conservation area.
The area features hazel thicket woodland and other deciduous forest vegetation, and of course a fox's den. Our nature trail winds through Reporinne, so visitors are welcome to explore the area as long as they stick to the marked paths. Please remember that no living creatures may be harmed in the area, not even mosquitoes, and picking flowers or collecting plants is not permitted.
More information about the Luontohelmet project can be found here.
You can experience the atmosphere of Reporinne by clicking our Instagram-post.
