"luhtiaitta" - traditional Finnish granary

In early summer 2018, the Elämystila’s traditional Finnish loft building was completed, offering accommodation in four separate rooms, each sleeping 2–4 guests.
There are a total of 12 beds available.
The smaller upstairs room has beds for two, the larger room sleeps 3+1.
Downstairs similarly, but the smaller room has a double bed.

The rooms have electricity and heating. There is no air conditioning, but the upstairs windows can be opened and are fitted with mosquito screens.
The thick log walls help keep the heat outside for longer, provided the doors are kept closed.
Guests staying in the luhtiaitta have access to the smoke sauna lodge with a well-equipped kitchen.

During summer, luhtiaitta rooms are also available on a B&B basis on weekdays. Scroll down to read more.

The eventful past of the Luhtiaitta

The loft barn has a fascinating history. Originally, it stood in the grounds of Vieremä Manor. From 1896 to 1906, Elisabet Järnefelt and her family lived on the estate, including writer Arvid Järnefelt and his sister Aino, who later became the wife of composer Jean Sibelius. Elisabet also ran a school in the loft barn.

In the 1980s, Lohja-based building master Antti Ventelä rescued the loft barn, which was already badly rotted in its lower sections, and moved it to his own property.
When it was time for a new roof and other renovations, Antti’s daughter, Riikka Ventelä, an enthusiastic entrepreneur based in Lohja, offered the loft barn to us at Kettukallio as accommodation. The project got underway in early 2017: the barn was dismantled from its previous location and moved to Kettukallio. Groundwork and reassembly began in autumn 2017, and by late spring 2018, the barn was ready to welcome guests.
